Who We Are
Pax Christi strives to create a world that reflects the Peace of Christ by exploring, articulating, and witnessing to the call of Christian nonviolence. This work begins in personal life and extends to communities of reflection and action to transform structures of society. Pax Christi rejects war, preparations for war, and every form of violence and domination. We advocate primacy of conscience, economic and social justice, and respect for creation. Pax Christi commits itself to peace education and promotes the gospel imperative of peacemaking as a priority in the Catholic Church. Through the efforts of all its members and in cooperation with other groups, Pax Christi works toward a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world. (Adapted from Pax Christi USA)
We are the CUA chapter of Pax Christi USA, the national Catholic social justice organization. Please join our mailing list and watch this website for new events and materials related to our work or join us at our weekly meetings, Thursdays at 8:30 in Pryz 324.
The Pax Christi CUA Nonviolence Pledge 2008
In trusting in the goodness and mercy of God, we pledge to commit ourselves to the peace of Christ through a non-violent way of life.
We will strive for inner-peace by:
- Respecting ourselves in mind, body, and spirit
- Walking by faith, maintaining hope, and growing in love
- Educating ourselves on forms of injustice
- Cultivating a deeper self-awareness
We will strive for peace within our community by:
- Addressing conflict in a timely and mature manner
- Celebrating diversity and remaining conscious of our tendencies to exclude
- Engaging in respectful and open communication
- Supporting each other in abiding companionship
We will strive for peace within our Church by:
- Addressing its imperfections and healing its wounds
- Answering our call to be exemplars of the Kingdom
- Continually discerning our role in and responsibility to the body of Christ
We will strive for peace within our world by:
- Living within our means in a way that we do not deprive others of the means to live
- Calling for an end to all violence and injustice
- Working actively to educate and provide peaceful alternatives to unhealthy practices
- Maintaining a respect for life at every level
We pledge to continuously uphold this commitment. Let us reflect on our progress towards becoming nonviolent and peaceable people.
Pause for Reflection
God, we trust in your sustaining love and believe that just as you gave us the grace and desire to live this, so you will also bestow abundant grace to fulfill it.
Amen.
