Service for the Spring 2008 semester was primarily focused on a campus wide event called Relay for Life, which two of our sisters helped to organize for the first time at Catholic. The ACS's Relay for Life is a 12 hour event from 7PM to 7AM that raised awareness and funds for cancer research. Our team, "The Cancer Fighting Kappa Tau Gammas" successfully raised about $1,000 throughout the semester and it was a night to remember!
(Jan 21st, 2008) On January 21, 2008, Kappa Tau Gamma participated in "Martin Luther King Day On not Off." which was organized by Campus Ministry. On Martin Luther King Day we went to an elementary school in Southeast DC and helped fix it up by cleaning and painting the school.
In addition to the many fundraising events that we held to raise money for Relay for Life throughout the semester, we also had a week long fundraiser to raise money for the Homeless Animals Rescue Team, a nonprofit organization that takes in dogs and cats who are in need of a home and adopts them out to loving families. We raised $100 dollars at the Pryz. by asking for donations at a table the week of Valentines Day.
Finally, for their pledge projects, some of the pledges went to Saint Ann's Children’s Home, which is an emergency placement shelter for children and infants.
Many of our sisters participate with each other and/or individually in the many service opportunities that CUA has to offer, and this upcoming semester will include even more service opportunities to get involved in! |
