Membership in Our Council

More than sixteen thousand college students in the U.S., Canada, and the Philippines are members of a Knights of Columbus college council. You could be one of them! Membership in our order is limited to Catholic men who are eighteen years of age and older and are practical Catholics in good standing with the Holy See.

To join our order, prospective applicants must participate in a First Degree ceremony. There are four degrees in the Knights of Columbus, each serving as an exemplification of one of our core virtues: charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. The ceremonials of our order must be kept secret, and therefore candidates for membership promise never to reveal them, except as required by their religious and civil duties.

First degree ceremonies are held throughout the year in the Washington, D.C. area, so there is always an opportunity for students to join our council. To find out the date and time of upcoming ceremonials and to arrange for an admissions interview, contact Trevor Hehn, our Admissions Committee chairman (email: 62Hehn AT cua.edu), or ask one of our members for assistance.
